City Notice Roundup: Council Eviction Vote and Public Health Alerts

City Council Meeting: Eviction Notice Extension Vote
The Minneapolis City Council will convene for a full session today, Thursday, March 5, 2026, at 9:30 AM in Room 380 of City Hall. A primary item on the legislative agenda is the final vote on the Temporary Pre-Eviction Notice Extension Ordinance (File No. 2026-00099). If approved, the ordinance would temporarily double the required written notice period for residential evictions from 30 to 60 days. This measure aims to provide additional time for residents to secure emergency rental assistance following recent community-wide economic disruptions. The proposal advanced from the Committee of the Whole earlier this week with a 7-5 vote.
Public Safety: Proposed Health and Wellness Division
During today’s session, the City Council is also expected to review an updated funding proposal from the Minneapolis Police Department (MPD) regarding the establishment of a Director of Police Health and Wellness. MPD Chief Brian O’Hara has urged the swift creation of this position to oversee a new Health and Wellness Division aimed at providing proactive mental health support for officers. Following previous discussions, the Council requested an alternative funding model that maintains existing community social worker roles while supporting the new division's leadership.
Public Health Advisory: Influenza Season 2025-2026
The Minneapolis Health Department continues to monitor the 2025-2026 influenza season. Recent data from public health reports indicates that the current seasonal vaccine is providing partial protection, efficiently recognizing the widely circulating H3N2 subclade K variant in approximately 40% of recipients. Health officials encourage residents who have not yet been vaccinated to do so, as the vaccine remains a critical tool for reducing the severity of illness and preventing hospitalizations associated with the seasonal flu.
Call for Volunteers: Public Health Advisory Committee
The City is currently seeking community members to serve on the Minneapolis Public Health Advisory Committee. A special recruitment cycle is open through March 31, 2026. Members of this committee provide essential input to the City Council and the Health Department on both routine and emergency public health needs. Interested residents are encouraged to submit their applications through the City’s official boards and commissions process.
