City Council Meeting Schedule Adjustments

The Minneapolis City Council has announced significant changes to its regular meeting calendar in response to the ongoing presence of federal law enforcement agents in the city. To prioritize community needs and administrative resources, all regular standing committee meetings originally scheduled for late January and early February have been canceled. This includes the Enterprise & Labor Relations, Business, Housing & Zoning, and Public Health, Safety & Equity committees.

Items typically handled by these committees will be referred to the Committee of the Whole, which is next scheduled to meet on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, at 9:30 a.m. The full City Council is expected to resume its regular sessions on Thursday, February 5. Residents are advised that these changes are intended to allow City staff and leadership to focus on immediate public safety concerns and community engagement during the current period of heightened federal activity.

Public Safety and Traffic Notice

The City of Minneapolis continues to coordinate with the Minnesota National Guard to reinforce local law enforcement resources. National Guard personnel, distinguishable by their neon reflective vests, remain stationed at key posts to assist the Minneapolis Police Department with community safety and traffic management. A vehicle perimeter remains active in the area near 26th Street and Nicollet Avenue. While residential traffic is permitted, the public is advised to avoid non-essential travel through this zone. Officials urge all residents participating in planned demonstrations for Saturday, January 31, to remain peaceful and follow all directions from local safety personnel.

Winter Health and Snow Emergency Status

The Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) has issued a health advisory as of January 2026, aligning state protocols with updated medical association immunization recommendations. Additionally, a seasonal medical alert remains in effect for the 2025-2026 winter season regarding the risks of frostbite and hypothermia. Residents are encouraged to check on unhoused neighbors and those with serious health conditions during periods of extreme cold.

  • Snow Emergency Status: As of Saturday, January 31, 2026, a Snow Emergency is NOT in effect.
  • Parking Rules: Normal parking regulations apply across the city. Residents should continue to monitor local weather forecasts and City alerts for any changes to parking restrictions should snowfall exceed two inches.
  • Sidewalk Maintenance: Property owners are reminded of their legal obligation to clear snow and ice from sidewalks within 24 hours of a snowfall to ensure safe passage for pedestrians.
