City Council and Committee Meetings

Residents are encouraged to attend or monitor the following official city meetings scheduled for Monday, March 9. These sessions provide a platform for legislative oversight and community input on local policy.

  • Enterprise & Labor Relations Committee: Convening at 1:30 p.m. in Room 380, City Hall. The committee will review labor agreements and city enterprise management items.
  • Workplace Advisory Committee: Meeting at 4:00 p.m. in Room 241, City Hall, to discuss ongoing workplace safety and labor standards.
  • Community Commission on Police Oversight: Gathering at 6:00 p.m. in Room 350 of the Public Service Center. This meeting will address public safety concerns and civilian oversight of law enforcement.

Infrastructure and Road Closure Alerts

The Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) and the City of Minneapolis have issued notices regarding major traffic disruptions beginning this evening.

  • I-494 Nightly Closures: Starting Monday, March 9, the westbound lanes of I-494 between I-35W and Highway 100 will close nightly from 10:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. This closure is necessary for lighting replacement and is expected to continue through March 14. Drivers should follow the marked detours utilizing Highway 62 and Highway 100.
  • Minnehaha Parkway Project: As part of the Nicollet Avenue bridge replacement, a section of Minnehaha Parkway remains closed to through traffic. This closure is part of a long-term project scheduled to continue through fall 2027.
  • I-494 Bridge Removal Completion: The full weekend closure of I-494 between I-35W and Highway 77 for the 12th Avenue bridge removal is scheduled to reopen at 5:00 a.m. this morning.

Public Health Advisories

The Minneapolis Health Department has active notices concerning community participation and updated health guidelines.

  • Health Advisory Committee Recruitment: The city is currently seeking community members for the Minneapolis Public Health Advisory Committee. This recruitment cycle runs through March 31. Interested residents can provide input on emergency preparedness and routine public health needs.
  • Immunization Guidance: Health officials remind residents that updated state immunization schedules are now in effect, aligning with the latest professional medical association recommendations to improve science-based information for local families.

Parks and Facilities Update

The Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board (MPRB) reminds residents of the following facility status changes:

  • Northeast Ice Arena: Due to a mechanical failure in the refrigeration system, the Northeast Ice Arena remains closed for the remainder of the 2026 ice season. No public skating or permitted events will take place at this location until repairs are completed for the next season.
