Public Meetings: Committee of the Whole and Planning Commission

The Minneapolis City Council has scheduled two critical public meetings for Tuesday, February 17, 2026. The Committee of the Whole (COW) will convene at 9:30 a.m. in Room 380 of City Hall. This session is designated to address several land-use appeals and administrative items. Key topics on the agenda include a Certificate of Appropriateness appeal for 201 Franklin Ave E, an Interim Use Permit for a site at 1901 Lake St E, and a variance appeal regarding 3906 York Ave S.

Later today, the City Planning Commission will meet at 4:30 p.m. in Room 350 of the Public Service Center. This meeting will focus on several significant development projects across the city. Commissioners are scheduled to review a preliminary plat for properties at 1 Portland Ave and 10 Chicago Ave, as well as site plan reviews for a new commercial building at 3800 3rd Ave S and a six-story mixed-use development at 2116 Nicollet. Additionally, the commission will consider a conditional use permit for a proposed bike skills park within Minnehaha Creek Park.

Public Hearing: Housing Maintenance and Eviction Notices

As part of today’s Committee of the Whole session, a public hearing will be held regarding a proposed ordinance to amend the Minneapolis Code of Ordinances relating to Housing Maintenance. The proposed amendment aims to temporarily extend the required length of pre-eviction notices. This hearing provides residents and stakeholders the opportunity to offer testimony on how the change might impact housing stability and the legal processes between housing providers and tenants.

Health Advisory: Sexually Transmitted Dermatophyte Outbreak

The Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) remains under an active health advisory issued earlier this month concerning an outbreak of Trichophyton mentagrophytes type VII (TMVII). This is a sexually transmitted fungal skin infection that causes severe ringworm. Health officials have identified dozens of confirmed or suspected cases clustered within the Twin Cities metropolitan area. Residents are advised to seek prompt medical treatment if they notice red, irritated, coin-like rashes. MDH recommends avoiding skin-to-skin contact if symptoms are present and advises against sharing personal items like towels or clothing during the treatment period, which can last up to three months.

Service Update: Snow Emergency and Parking Status

The City of Minneapolis confirms that a Snow Emergency is not currently in effect for Tuesday, February 17, 2026. Despite the forecast for light rain, accumulation levels do not necessitate emergency plowing operations at this time. Normal parking rules are in effect across all city streets. Residents are encouraged to continue monitoring the city's official channels for any changes in weather conditions that may affect street maintenance schedules later in the week.
