Official City Bulletin: Public Health Advisories and Infrastructure Notices

Public Health Advisory: Fungal Outbreak
The Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) and the City of Minneapolis have issued an active health advisory regarding a sexually transmitted fungal skin infection. An outbreak of Trichophyton mentagrophytes type VII (TMVII) has been identified within the Twin Cities metropolitan area. This infection causes severe, red, coin-like rashes. Residents are advised to seek prompt medical attention if symptoms appear. Health officials recommend avoiding skin-to-skin contact when symptoms are present and advise against sharing personal items like towels or clothing, as treatment for this specific strain can last up to three months.
Transportation & Infrastructure: I-394 Weekend Closure
A major long-term construction project on the Interstate 394 corridor is currently underway. For the weekend beginning Friday, February 27, and continuing through Sunday, March 1, 2026, travelers should expect significant disruptions including full lane closures between downtown Minneapolis and Highway 100. This work is part of a larger safety and bridge longevity initiative that will continue through November. Additionally, the Penn Avenue bridge over I-394 is now closed to all traffic for the duration of the project. Commuters are encouraged to utilize alternate routes and allow for extra travel time.
Seasonal Road Weight Restrictions
The Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) has announced that winter load increases for the Metro frost zone will officially end at 12:01 a.m. on Tuesday, March 3, 2026. Following this, Spring Load Restrictions (SLR) will go into effect to protect city streets from damage during the spring thaw. Operators of heavy vehicles must adhere to reduced weight limits on all affected trunk highways and local streets. Notice of specific route restrictions is available through the city’s 311 service and official MnDOT load limit maps.
City Council Legislative Updates
The Minneapolis City Council is currently reviewing several key ordinances following its recent February sessions. Of particular note for residents and housing providers is a proposed amendment to the Housing Maintenance Code that would temporarily extend the required pre-eviction notice period from 30 days to 60 days. A formal public hearing for this ordinance is scheduled for March 3, 2026. Furthermore, the Council has authorized the conversion of a city-owned facility at 19 North 4th Street into a new training and wellness center for the Minneapolis Police Department.
