Official City Notice: Transportation Updates and Public Health Advisories
Transportation Alert: Resumption of Major I-394 Construction
The Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) has issued a notice regarding the resumption of significant repair work on the I-394 and I-94 corridor. While the most intensive phase of the spring 2026 schedule is slated to begin on Sunday, February 22, preliminary impacts are active as of Friday, February 20. Motorists should be aware that westbound I-394 is currently reduced to two lanes using the E-ZPass lanes between downtown Minneapolis and Highway 100. No tolls or carpool requirements are in effect for the E-ZPass lanes during this period. Drivers are urged to exercise caution in work zones and plan for significant delays during peak travel times.
Public Health: Food Safety and Product Recalls
Minneapolis health officials have shared several urgent safety alerts from the Minnesota Department of Agriculture and the FDA active this week. Residents are advised to check their pantries for the following recalled products:
- Baby Food: “Tippy Toes” Apple Pear Banana Fruit Puree (2-pack, 4 oz tubs). The recall concerns Lot Number 07174 with a Best By date of July 17, 2026, due to elevated levels of patulin.
- Seafood: Stellar Bay Oysters harvested from British Columbia (Area BC 17-20). These have been linked to a norovirus outbreak; consumers and retailers are advised to discard any remaining stock from the January harvest.
Community Support: Operation Reconnect
In response to ongoing community concerns regarding federal enforcement activities, the City of Minneapolis and Hennepin County continue to operate 'Operation Reconnect.' This incident command center is available 24/7 to assist residents in accessing essential public health services. Officials emphasize that healthcare facilities remain safe spaces and encourage residents to continue attending medical appointments. For those unable to travel, the program provides coordination for home visits, telehealth, and transportation for medical needs.
Winter Parking and Seasonal Funding
As of February 20, 2026, a Snow Emergency is not in effect for the City of Minneapolis. Normal parking rules apply on all city streets. However, residents are reminded to stay tuned to official channels should weather conditions change rapidly.
Additionally, the City is currently seeking applicants for community-based funding. Neighborhood groups and local artists are encouraged to apply for the 'Open Streets Minneapolis' and 'Cultural Districts Art Fund.' These grants are designed to support public art and community-led events scheduled for the upcoming spring and summer seasons.
