Official City Update: Public Health Advisory and Federal Operation Withdrawal

Public Health Advisory: Fungal Infection Outbreak
The Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) has issued a formal advisory regarding an outbreak of a sexually transmitted fungal skin infection, Trichophyton mentagrophytes type VII (TMVII), within the Twin Cities metropolitan area. As of February 13, 2026, officials have confirmed 13 cases and identified 27 suspected cases. The infection presents as red, coin-like rashes and is spread through direct skin-to-skin contact.
Residents experiencing persistent or unusual rashes are urged to seek medical evaluation immediately. While treatable with oral antifungal medication, the department warns that treatment may require up to three months. Public health officials recommend avoiding the sharing of personal items such as towels or clothing and notifying sexual partners if symptoms appear.
Notice of Federal Law Enforcement Withdrawal
Following a formal announcement from federal authorities on February 12, the City of Minneapolis is notifying residents that the immigration enforcement operation known as 'Operation Metro Surge' has entered its conclusion phase. A withdrawal of federal agents from the Twin Cities is scheduled to take place over the coming week.
City leaders have emphasized that local resources remain dedicated to community stability during this transition. Governor Tim Walz has proposed a $10 million state aid package to assist local businesses that suffered economic disruptions during the operation. Residents seeking support or information regarding community safety and recovery resources are encouraged to contact the city’s 'Operation Reconnect' incident command center, which remains active 24/7.
