Holiday Service Schedule: Martin Luther King Jr. Day

The City of Minneapolis observed the Martin Luther King Jr. Day holiday on Monday, January 19, 2026. Residents should take note of the following changes to city services:

  • City Offices: All administrative offices for the City of Minneapolis and Hennepin County are closed today. This includes the 311 service line, though residents can still report non-emergency issues via the city's mobile app or website.
  • Garbage and Recycling: Residential garbage and recycling collection remains on its normal schedule today. Households with Monday pickups should place their bins at the curb as usual. The South Transfer Station is closed.
  • Parking: City parking meters are not enforced today in observance of the federal holiday. Note that other parking restrictions, including those related to potential snow emergencies, remain in effect unless otherwise stated.
  • Libraries and Schools: All Hennepin County Library locations and Minneapolis Public Schools are closed.

Public Health Advisory: Salmonella Recall

The Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) has issued an urgent advisory regarding a multistate Salmonella outbreak linked to a dietary supplement. Residents are warned not to consume "Live it Up Super Greens" powdered supplement (Original and Wild Berry flavors). The affected products have expiration dates ranging from August 2026 to January 2028. If you have this product, you are advised to discard it or return it to the point of purchase. Symptoms of Salmonella infection include fever, abdominal cramps, and diarrhea.

Public Safety and Civil Rights Updates

In response to ongoing federal enforcement activities within the city, the Minneapolis City Council recently passed a unanimous resolution calling for a statewide eviction moratorium to protect residents impacted by the current climate. Additionally, a federal judge has issued a preliminary injunction restricting the tactics federal agents may use during local operations. The order prohibits the use of chemical irritants and non-lethal munitions against peaceful protesters and forbids the stopping of vehicles without reasonable suspicion.

Upcoming Public Meetings

Regular government business will resume on Tuesday. Key upcoming sessions include:

  • City Planning Commission: Tuesday, January 20, at 4:30 p.m. at City Hall. Agenda items include site plan reviews for new developments on Washington Avenue and Nicollet Avenue.
  • City Council Regular Meeting: Thursday, January 22, at 9:30 a.m.
