Official Notice: Presidents’ Day Service Impacts and Winter Health Advisories
City Holiday Observance: Presidents’ Day
In observance of Presidents’ Day (Washington’s Birthday) on Monday, February 16, 2026, most City of Minneapolis administrative offices are closed. This closure includes Minneapolis City Hall and the Minneapolis 311 service line. While 311 agents are unavailable for live assistance today, residents can still report non-emergency issues via the city’s mobile app or website. Essential services, including 911, Minneapolis Police, and the Fire Department, remain fully operational.
Garbage and Recycling Collection
Unlike other major federal holidays, garbage and recycling collection services for the City of Minneapolis are not delayed for the Presidents’ Day holiday. Residents whose collection day falls on Monday, February 16, should set their carts out by 6:00 a.m. as usual. This applies to garbage, recycling, and organics recycling. The South Transfer Station is closed on Mondays as per its regular schedule and will resume operations on Tuesday.
Parking Enforcement Adjustments
On-street parking meters operated by the City of Minneapolis are not enforced today, February 16. However, residents and visitors should take note of the following exceptions where meter enforcement remains active:
- Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board meters.
- University of Minnesota parking meters.
- Private parking operators, including those at hospitals and specialized ramps.
Normal parking enforcement for all city meters will resume on Tuesday, February 17. Always check the display on the meter or nearby signage to verify enforcement status.
Public Health Advisory: Outbreak and Seasonal Alerts
The Minnesota Department of Health has issued an active advisory regarding a significant outbreak of a fungal-based infection (Trichophyton indotineae) in the Twin Cities area. With over 30 confirmed cases, officials are urging residents to be aware of symptoms and consult healthcare providers if necessary. Additionally, a Winter Medical Alert remains in effect for the 2025-2026 season. Residents are reminded to take precautions against hypothermia and frostbite during outdoor activities. Community members are encouraged to check on unhoused neighbors and individuals with limited access to climate-controlled environments.
