Official Public Notice: Heritage Preservation Hearings and City Council Schedule Adjustments

Notice of Public Meeting: Heritage Preservation Commission
The Minneapolis Heritage Preservation Commission is scheduled to convene today, Tuesday, February 10, 2026, at 4:30 p.m. The meeting will take place in Room 350 of the Public Service Center (PSC). One of the primary items on the agenda is a continued public hearing regarding the property located at 1700 50th St W (Case PLAN20710). This session concerns a formal application for the demolition of a historic resource, which has been under review since the commission's January 27 meeting.
City Council Committee Schedule Changes
Residents and stakeholders should take note of significant changes to the municipal legislative calendar. The Minneapolis City Council has announced the cancellation of all regular standing committee meetings through February 19, 2026. This includes the Business, Housing & Zoning Committee session originally slated for this afternoon, February 10.
This administrative adjustment is in response to the ongoing operational demands placed on city staff and the community due to the presence of federal enforcement agents in the metro area. Matters that would typically be heard by individual committees have been referred to the Committee of the Whole. The next Committee of the Whole meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, February 17, 2026, at 9:30 a.m. in the City Hall Council Chamber.
Public Health and Safety Advisories
The City of Minneapolis, in partnership with the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), highlights the active "Fentanyl Free America" initiative. A public service billboard is currently positioned on northbound Interstate 94, south of Lowry Avenue, to raise awareness about the dangers of synthetic opioids. Health officials urge community members to engage in open dialogue regarding the risks of fentanyl use.
Furthermore, several international travel advisories remain active for the Twin Cities region. The governments of Ireland, France, and Finland have issued notices advising their citizens to exercise caution or avoid large gatherings in Minneapolis due to civil unrest and the federal "Operation Metro Surge" activities currently taking place in the city center.
Winter Parking and Service Reminders
As of Tuesday, February 10, a Snow Emergency is not in effect. However, the Department of Public Works reminds the public that winter parking rules remain a priority for maintaining emergency vehicle access. If a Snow Emergency is declared following future snowfall, residents must follow the three-day plowing schedule to avoid ticketing and towing.
- Sidewalk Clearing: Property owners are reminded that city ordinance requires sidewalks to be cleared of snow and ice within 24 hours of a snowfall for residential buildings (single-family homes and duplexes).
- Parking Rules: During non-emergency periods, motorists should be mindful of posted signs and are encouraged to use the odd side of non-Snow Emergency routes to assist with street maintenance.
