Health Alert: Outbreak of Rare Fungal Infection

The Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) has issued an official health advisory following an outbreak of a rare, sexually transmitted fungal skin infection in the Twin Cities metropolitan area. The infection, caused by the fungus Trichophyton mentagrophytes type VII (TMVII), typically presents as a red, irritated, or coin-like rash on the limbs, trunk, or genitals. As of mid-February, officials have confirmed 13 cases with another 27 suspected instances under investigation. While the overall public health risk is considered low, MDH recommends that any residents experiencing persistent or unusual rashes seek medical evaluation immediately, as specialized oral antifungal treatment may be required for up to three months.

Winter Parking Status and Snow Emergency Update

As of Sunday, February 15, 2026, a Snow Emergency is not in effect for the City of Minneapolis. Normal parking rules apply across all city streets and snow emergency routes. Residents are reminded to continue monitoring local weather forecasts, as winter parking restrictions can be implemented rapidly if significant snowfall accumulation occurs. When a Snow Emergency is active, vehicles must follow the three-day parking rotation to ensure city plows can clear emergency lanes effectively.
